Purim 2026 / 5786 פּוּרִים

Purim for Hebrew Year 5786 begins at sundown on Monday, 2 March 2026 and ends at nightfall on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.

Gaddi’s Notes on the Eternal Wisdom of the Prominent Sages:
“Purim: The Festival of Concealed Light and Eternal Redemption”

The festival of Purim is one of the most mysterious and paradoxical holy days in the Torah calendar.

While outwardly it appears as a celebration of physical salvation, joy, costumes, and feasting, the Jewish sages reveal that Purim contains some of the deepest secrets of Divine Providence, hidden light, exile, and redemption.

Let us explore Purim through the voices of the great sages — the Talmud, Midrash, Zohar, Arizal, Maharal, Vilna Gaon, Baal Shem Tov, and Chassidut.

1️⃣ Hiddenness and the Concealment of God

The story of Purim is recorded in Book of Esther (Megillat Esther) — the only book of Tanach in which the explicit Name of God does not appear.

🔹 The Talmudic Secret

The Talmud (Chullin 139b) asks:“Where is Esther hinted at in the Torah?” It answers from Deut. 31:18:"Anochi haster astir panai"“I will surely hide My face.”

The sages explain:Esther = from hester (hiddenness)

Purim reveals how God operates behind the mask of history

Unlike the open miracles of Pesach, Purim is a miracle wrapped in natural events. The Maharal of Prague teaches in Or Chadash:Purim represents Divine governance at the deepest, concealed level — beyond nature yet operating through it.

2️⃣ The Zohar: Purim and the Supernal Joy

The Zohar explains that Purim draws from a level even higher than Yom Kippur.

The Arizal reveals:Yom HaKippurim = Yom Ke-Purim“A day like Purim.”

This means:

Yom Kippur reaches holiness through fasting.

Purim reaches holiness through joy and physical elevation.

The Arizal teaches:Purim draws from Keter (Crown) — the highest sefirah — a level of Divine Will beyond reason.

Thus the mitzvah:“Ad d’lo yada” — until one transcends intellectual calculation.

This is not chaos — it is surrender to Divine Oneness beyond duality.

3️⃣ Amalek and the Battle Against Doubt

Purim is the eternal war against Haman, descendant of Amalek.

The Baal Shem Tov explains:Amalek = ספק(safek, doubt)

Gematria of Amalek = 240

Gematria of safek = 240

Amalek cools spiritual passion and causes forgetfulness of Divine Providence.

Purim therefore repairs:

Emunah (faith)

Trust in hidden Providence

Unity of Israel

4️⃣ The Maharal: Purim and Essential Jewish Identity

The Maharal of Prague explains:

At Sinai, the Torah was accepted with awe and coercive revelation.

But in the days of Esther:“Kimu v’kiblu”They re-accepted the Torah willingly (Shabbat 88a).

Purim represents:

Acceptance of Torah in exile

Faith without open miracles

Identity rooted beyond circumstance

This is why Purim is eternal — it will remain even in Messianic times (Midrash Mishlei).

5️⃣ The Arizal: The Cosmic Rectification of Purim

The Isaac Luria (Arizal) teaches:

Haman drew from unrectified Gevurah (harsh judgment).

Mordechai drew from Abba (Chochmah).

Esther represents Malchut in exile.

The Purim miracle is:

Sweetening of judgments

Elevation of concealed Malchut

Transformation of decree into salvation

Thus:

Fasting (Esther’s fast) rectifies judgment.

Feast of Purim transforms judgment into joy.

6️⃣ The Vilna Gaon: Divine Providence in Exile

The Vilna Gaon explains:

Every detail in Megillat Esther was Divinely orchestrated:

Vashti’s fall

Esther’s selection

Sleepless night of the king

The exact timing of events

Purim reveals that:

There is no coincidence — only concealed orchestration.

This is the deepest comfort of exile.

7️⃣ Chassidut: Masks and Inner Essence

Purim customs include:

Costumes

Drinking

Joyful celebration

Chassidic masters teach: Just as we wear masks, so too reality wears a mask.

But beneath the mask:Everything is Divine Will.

The Baal Shem Tov says: When one realizes that even concealment is from God, concealment itself becomes revelation.

8️⃣ Purim and the Messianic Future

The Midrash teaches:All festivals may be nullified in the future — except Purim.

Why?

Because Purim represents:

Faith in darkness

Redemption from hidden exile

Joy that transforms sorrow

It is the prototype of the final redemption — when history itself will be understood as Divine choreography.

9️⃣ The Four Mitzvot of Purim (Inner Meaning)

Megillah ReadingReveal hidden Divine narrative

Mishloach ManotRepair unity among Israel

Matanot La’EvyonimSweeten judgments through kindness

SeudahElevate physicality into holiness

Together they rectify:

Speech

Relationships

Wealth

Physical pleasure

🌟 Conclusion: The Secret of Purim

Purim teaches:

God is present even when hidden.

Exile itself is part of redemption.

Joy transforms harsh decrees.

Doubt (Amalek) is defeated through faith.

It is the festival of hidden light — the אור הגנוז revealed inside darkness.

In the words of the sages:

When you discover the Divine in concealment, you enter the highest level of faith.

Purim is not merely historical salvation —

it is the revelation that even the mask is Divine.

A Zohar-Only Mystical Exposition on Purim

In the language of the holy Zohar, Purim is not merely a historical salvation but a revelation emerging from concealment — the mystery of Malchut descending into exile and returning crowned.

1️⃣ Hester Panim – Concealed Shechinah

The Zohar teaches that when Israel goes into exile, the Shechinah descends with them. The concealment of the Divine Name in the Book of Esther reflects the concealment of Malchut within the nations.

Esther represents:

Malchut in exile

The hidden Divine Presence

The “Moon” diminished among foreign powers

The concealment itself is part of the supernal plan. The Zohar explains: when Malchut is concealed, the upper lights contract, yet the inner essence remains intact.

Thus Purim reveals: Even in concealment, the Holy One, blessed be He, governs all through hidden pathways.

2️⃣ Mordechai and Supernal Wisdom

Mordechai draws from Chochmahsupernal wisdom from Abba.

Haman draws from the external forces of Din (judgment) without sweetening.

The cosmic drama:

Din rises.

Malchut appears vulnerable.

Yet Chochmah descends secretly and sweetens Gevurah.

The sleepless night of the king hints to:

The “King Above” never sleeps.

Providence awakens mercy within judgment.

3️⃣ Amalek as Spiritual Coldness

In Zoharic language, Amalek represents the klipah that cools spiritual fire.

Haman’s lot (pur) symbolizes randomnessdenial of Divine order.

Purim rectifies this by revealing:

There is no “chance.”

All is orchestrated within supernal unity.

When Israel unites below, Malchut is elevated above.

4️⃣ Yom HaKippurim – A Day Like Purim

The Arizal, drawing from the Zohar, reveals:

Yom HaKippurim is “like Purim.”

Yom Kippur ascends through:

Abstinence

Awe

Restriction

Purim ascends through:

Joy

Feast

Transformation of physicality

Purim draws from Keter — the concealed Will above reason.

Thus “ad d’lo yada” represents transcendence of duality — where cursed Haman and blessed Mordechai are unified in Divine Oneness.

5️⃣ The Feast and the Sweetening of Judgment

The Zohar explains that when Din is sweetened at its root, darkness itself becomes light.

The Purim feast:

Elevates physical wine into supernal joy.

Reveals the hidden light embedded in exile.

Unifies Chesed and Gevurah within Malchut.

Purim therefore represents:

The transformation of decree into delight.

The revelation of concealed mercy.

The crowning of Malchut in joy.

6️⃣ The Eternal Festival

The Zohar hints that Purim is rooted in a level beyond cyclical time.

Because it emerges from concealment, it will never be annulled.

When the final redemption comes:

The hidden orchestration of exile will be revealed.

All masks will dissolve.

Malchut will shine fully crowned.

Purim is thus the prototype of ultimate revelation through concealment.

Purim: The Hidden Light of Redemption

In the teachings shared through Beit Yisrael International and illuminated by the Gaddi Efrayim Notes, Purim is understood not merely as survival in exile, but as a revelation of the inner mission of Israel among the nations.

1️⃣ Esther – The Hidden Soul of Israel

Esther represents:

The concealed soul within exile.

The Divine spark hidden among the nations.

The silent faith that sustains redemption.

Her name from hester teaches that the deepest light is concealed light.

Beit Yisrael emphasizes: When Israel remains faithful in hiddenness, the Shechinah is elevated.

2️⃣ Mordechai – The Tzaddik in Exile

Mordechai represents the tzaddik who refuses to bow to Amalek.

According to Gaddi Efrayim insights:

Amalek is doubt.

Haman is ideological corruption.

The battle is spiritual before it is political.

The tzaddik anchors the people in emunah, ensuring the light of Torah remains unextinguished even in foreign lands.

3️⃣ Unity as the Key to Redemption

Esther commands:“Go, gather all the Jews.”

The miracle begins with unity.

Beit Yisrael highlights:

Disunity empowers Amalek.

Unity crowns Malchut.

The four mitzvot repair:

Speech (Megillah)

Relationships (Mishloach Manot)

Social justice (Matanot La’Evyonim)

Physical sanctification (Seudah)

4️⃣ Purim and the Light of Mashiach

Purim foreshadows final redemption:

Just as:

The decree turned to salvation.

Mourning turned to joy.

So too in the end of days:

Concealed providence will become visible.

The hidden tzaddik light will be revealed.

The nations will recognize Divine orchestration.

Purim teaches Israel to live redemption even within exile.

🌟 Conclusion (Beit Yisrael Perspective)

Purim is the festival of:

Faith beyond sight.

Joy beyond circumstance.

Redemption emerging from concealment.

It calls Israel to:

Strengthen unity.

Reject spiritual doubt.

Recognize Divine guidance in history.

Prepare for the ultimate unveiling of Mashiach.

The mask is temporary. The light is eternal.
